As we enter 2013 we expect to see a whole new bunch of avatar related news emerging. Over the past 10 years we have seen massive progressions in the way that avatars have been developed and interact with us. As technology progresses, advances in avatar applications continue. Virtual characters often referred to as 'avatars' have become part of everyday life and the future sci-fidream everyone imagined. 

The word 'Avatar' covers a broad spectrum of meanings. From the film, to virtual computer robots powered by thoughts of the brain, to the small cartoon characters generated online. The general meaning an often be related to as something which refers to a human or is controlled by.  

Nowadays people naturally related virtual worlds and characters to avatars, this is probably because of the famous film production. There is other versions being used though and they are often featured in the news.  

Here are a few of the latest: 

-Virtual assistants being used in airports as border control. The avatar talks to passengers and even has lie detection capabilities. These are used instead of people to save resources. 

- Music avatar performers in the east. Virtual singers are becoming famous and appearing in the charts. 

- Thought process linked to computers and relayed in a virtual environment 

- Robot avatars being developed for the army controlled by the mind to save lives. 

As you can see there are many types of new avatar applications emerging. There seems to be one similarity with all avatars though. They all are controlled or represent humans. Either in physical robot form or as a virtual graphic. It seems that these will soon take over many of the physical aspects humans have to perform and we may become an avatar controlled world.
