Reports are emerging that an earthquake has hit north Thailand. The earthquake has thought to have struck in the Chiang Rai, region close to Burma. Its believed to be around magnitude 6.9.
A man felt it strike on the 50th Floor of a building in Bangkok, making the room shake. These are the first reports coming through from a source in Thailand. Early indications say its not too serious. However it has caused movement as far as Bangkok.
Its rare for earthquakes to happen in Thailand. Similar to the risk of one happening in the UK, so this is quite unusual.
Its too early to tell whether there is much damage but everyone is aware of the problems earthquakes can cause after the Japan disaster that caused a Tsunami last week.
Myanmmar (Known as Burma) is a known area for earthquakes. There has apparantly been more shaking in north Thailand following the first quake as new information is coming through..
