Many grown up Republicans are now acting like a child that needs to be given a, “Time-Out”. First it was the “Righties” celebrating Obama’s loss of the Olympics for Chicago. Then a few days later, as if it was something that Obama had personally decided, there was the major negative or controversial comments about Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Then when the Obama administration finally commented on how the FOX NEWS channel tries to pass off their conservative, untrue Republican “talking –points” as “News”, the FOX “talking-heads” then got all “huffy and indignant” about being criticized by the Obama White House. I guess after all of this and the way the Republicans and conservatives have been acting, I must now agree with the New York Times, Paul Krugman, when he said; “We have now learned that the modern conservative movement, which dominates the modern Republican Party, has the emotional maturity of a bratty 13-year-old”. I have to say, that based on what the opposition party is saying and doing, all they continue to do is to prove that they are offering nothing with any constructive ideas. That statement applies to everything from health care reform, to the conflict in Afghanistan, to dealing with the economy and to any future for job creations. It’s all just more of the previous eight years of the failed Bush Administration. They are not just the party of “NO”, they have become more like a big party of juveniles that says; “hell no, and your mother wears combat boots”. When anyone listens to the bizarre comments from Rush Limbaugh about wanting the American President to “fail”. When we hear the strange comments regarding “detention camps” from the even more bizarre Minnesota Republican Representative, Michelle Bachmann. And then there’s the off-the-wall comments from Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX), about how allowing same-sex marriage would also allow approval of “those with a sexual bias toward bestiality, pedophilia, or necrophilia and it could somehow lead to America having a national leader such as the previous little guy from Germany with the little mustache”. This is all just more proof as to how the Republicans have become the party of “NO”, of bizarre comments and of “total irrelevance”. As Mr. Krugman also said, it has come to the point that ; “If the Republicans think something might be good for the president, they will be against it — whether or not it’s good for America.” Once again, the GOP is acting like a teenager that has been “grounded and told that they can’t go to the Mall with their friends”. The reality is that the Democratic party, as flawed as it is, does have a basic attitude of arguing its philosophy on the basis of the facts. You know, those little issues of truth that people should hear in order to make a properly informed decision. The Republicans, on the other hand, would prefer to use false information in trying to make their sometimes unreal and bizarre points. As an example, with the on-going issue of health care reform, the Democrats have focused on having a plan that would lower costs, cover all American citizens and would take away pre-existing conditions and would prevent anyone from getting between you and your doctor. From the Republican side, they claim incorrectly that a bureaucrat would be between the patient and the doctor, (As the insurance company is doing today.). They then go on to totally lie about bizarre “death panels” that would “pull the plug on granny”. Even Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), after the Senate Finance Committee finally approved the “Baucus Bill” on health care reform, (for getting it out of committee), the Senator lied when he stated that; “For the first time we have just told the public that they will be forced to purchase something by the government.” I guess the Senator must never have had to buy a house or a car where the state required the home or automobile to have insurance coverage, paid for by the buyer. I understand that, going back to Ronald Reagan, the Republicans have hated any publicly supported medical programs. That includes Medicare, Medicaid or the current health care reform under discussion. In fact, President Reagan hated Medicare so much that he once said after Medicare’s creation, “Medicare will destroy America’s freedom”. Mr. Krugman also looked at this side of the GOP and he was very correct when he stated that; “The key point is that ever since the Reagan years, the Republican Party has been dominated by radicals — ideologues and/or apparatchiks who, at a fundamental level, do not accept anyone else’s right to govern. Anyone surprised by the venomous, over-the-top opposition to Mr. Obama must have forgotten the Clinton years. Remember when Rush Limbaugh suggested that Hillary Clinton was a party to murder? When Newt Gingrich shut down the federal government in an attempt to bully Bill Clinton into accepting those Medicare cuts? And let’s not even talk about the impeachment saga. In the 1990s, Newt Gingrich tried to force drastic cuts in Medicare financing. And in recent years, Republicans have repeatedly decried the growth in entitlement spending — growth that is largely driven by rising health care costs.” It’s hard to understand just what the conservatives and the GOP are trying to achieve….? Do they really think that their conservative Washington “think tanks” can justify their lies to where the public will remain totally uninformed? Sure, you can “fool all of the people, some of the time”. But as we always know, “what goes around, comes around”. At some point, it will all come back to haunt them. (In fact, today’s public awakening may be the current legacy of the past administration.) And as the Republicans continue to be the party of “NO”, and to continue to spread their less than correct information, a more careful Democratic party will just be in an excellent position for continued success. I guess we can continue to hope for the best and for just trying to keep everyone honest. Copyright G.Ater 2009 Follow me on Twitter: gater01 |
