Timbrook Buick GMC is pleased to announce that the Buick Achievers Scholarship has returned for a third year. This is a great opportunity for graduating high school students or returning undergraduate students to help keep down the high costs of a college education.
From now until February 28th at 5 p.m. EST, students can enter to receive the Buick Achievers Scholarship, the funds for which are made available through the General Motors Foundation. Already, in the two years the scholarships have been offered, the program has donated over $12 million to more than 2,000 students. Eligible students are those pursuing majors in information technology, design, business, and engineering. In this third year, the scholarships will be awarded to 1,100 academically competitive students.
The students are broken up into two categories. Of the 1,100 students chosen to receive aid, 1,000 will receive a scholarship award of $2,000. This is a one-time, nonrenewable scholarship that can be applied toward tuition, housing, books, food, etc. The other 100 students are special standout entrants who demonstrate superior dedication to exploring and discovering, inside and outside of the classroom. These most distinguished students will each receive scholarships of up to $25,000 a year. This scholarship is renewable for four years. Special cases are made for engineer students in a five-year program.
As previously stated, over 2,000 students have received award money in the last two years. These students are represented by a variety of distinctions. All 50 states have housed award winners, and 120 of the scholarship winners have been military veterans who are going to school (or back to school). In addition, an inspiring 1,000 students (nearly half of all winners) have been the first in their families to have attended college.
