Parents today are offered a wide range of choices when they are selecting schools for their children. One of the most important factors which need to be considered when choosing schools is the curriculum followed by the school. Only a good well-balanced curriculum can help in an overall development of your child and also make your children eligible for further education and help them to compete with the best of the best.

Today schools follow different boards at secondary education level such as ICSE (Indian Certificate for Secondary Education), CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), and SSC (Secondary School Certificate). Most international schools such as Canadian International School in Bangalore, India, follow Cambridge IGSCE (International General Certificate for Secondary Education) program. Cambridge IGSCE is an internationally recognised qualification which has gained popularity lately for the structured and flexible program it offers. It prepares students and makes them eligible for a range of national and international boards for their 12th Grade.

Started in 1985 by the University of Cambridge International Examinations, the program is designed to suit children of different ability levels.

The curriculum aims to develop reasoning, questioning spirit, problem solving, and creative thinking in learners. IGSCE students have the flexibility to choose their subjects from the variety of options offered. The core curricula include First Language, Second Language, Sciences and Mathematics. Core curricula consist of an overview of the subjects and are suited for children having ability of C to G Grade. The extended curriculum is the specialization in the subject and is designed to students who have high abilities and are A+ to C scorers.

IGSCE follows  a eight-point grading system with A+ being highest which is equivalent to 4 -4.3 GPA and G being lowest which is equivalent to 1.0 GPA. Examinations occur twice every year in May/June and October/November. Assessment is mainly based on how much a student has learnt and his ability to apply this knowledge. Evaluation is carried out on the basis of the performances in the writing, oral and practical exercises. Highly trained teachers are eligible for carrying out the assessment and Cambridge has established clearly defined guidelines to assess the requirement for each grade.

The whole program is focussed on improving thinking abilities, communication skills, application of the knowledge acquired, and understanding capabilities of the children.  Being tailored for multicultural and multilingual learners all over the world, IGSCE is one of the finest international secondary education programs being offered today.
