Texas, United States, 28 May 2012: Here is something the residents of Texas should be aware of. As per the Financial Responsibility laws of the Texas, if a person is convicted of DWI or other high risk moving violations, he or she needs to get SR-22 insurance. This certificate shows that the minimum amount required for vehicle liability insurance has been purchased.
While discussing the SR-22 requirements, the senior executive of the organization said, “The state of Texas wants all driver’s to be able to pay for any accidents that they cause. That is why the state’s Financial Responsibility laws, require every driver whose license has been suspended or revoked, to file and maintain a Form SR-22 with the state's Department of Public Safety. The state of Texas wants those who are considered problem drivers to have extra supervision.”
A driver must get SR-22 coverage if he was involved in accident in the past and was unable to pay for damages, or has an unsatisfied judgment against them in that case. Besides these issues, if the driver has received mandatory insurance supervision or three or more convictions for driving without insurance, he will also be required to file an SR-22 certificate in order to drive. Also, if the license of the driver had been suspended or revoked for driving while intoxicated or other reasons, he msut get SR-22 coverage.
The senior executive working with them further explained, “If you have filed for an SR-22 form, your license will be reinstated after a suspension or it may be used to prevent the suspension from occurring if filed within 30 days of the directive. It is issued to you either as an operator, owner's, or operators-owners certificate.”
