Yoga Veda, an International School of Yoga and Ayurveda based in South East Asia has teamed up with the San Diego College of Ayurveda to bring for the first time in October 2014 a 21 Day, 200 Hour Certified Course entitled, “Ayurveda – Nutrition and Yoga Therapy” to the Cayman Islands.

A dual certification is provided at the completion of the 200 hour course. The course is a pre-requisite to a further education in both Ayurveda and Yoga and is recognized by the Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour RYT level as well as by the National Ayurvedic Medical Association and the International Association of Yoga Therapists.

A one of a kind course according Ayurvedic Wellness Practitioner and course Director, Jacquelyn Richard. “This course is a different kind of yoga training. We have created this training so that it not only meets but exceeds the requirements of a formal Ayurveda Yoga Therapy course.”

Ayurveda – Nutrition and Yoga Therapy Course exceeds the 200 hour requirements for both accrediting agencies in the United States of America.

You simply cannot practice true yoga without at least a basic understanding of Ayurveda, it’s just that simple.”

The program will be taught in October, 2014 for 3 weeks in the Cayman Islands on Seven Mile Beach. The venue is yet to be determined.

Ayurveda offers a compliment to any yoga practice and is considered by many to be the “Sister Science” of Hatha Yoga. Yoga is becoming widely well known for its many health benefits such as stress reduction, relief from depression and anxiety, weightloss, and countless other physical benefits. These benefits can be greatly multiplied if one incorporates Ayurvedic principles into their yoga practice.

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian system of medicine that dates back thousands of years. However, it has not been until recently that modern science is beginning to prove many aspects of this ancient medical system through modern scientific research.

According to Ayurveda, we are all a part of the same elements that created the universe. These elements, referred to in Ayurveda, as Doshas (or Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and are reflected in each and every one of us, in our bodies, our hearts and in our minds.

Taking these individual qualities into account, Ayurveda is able to set forth a natural prescription for healing. According to Ayurveda, when the body and mind are living in harmony to nature and to our current surroundings, health and wellbeing will follow. When we are living outside of these parameters, disease or dis-ease will follow.

Any yoga practice is complimented by Ayurveda. This is achieved by understanding the individual body type and current imbalances (prakruti / vikruti) as well as understanding the principles of diet, exercise, yoga therapy, sound therapy, mantra, mudra, pranayama (breath work), meditation, etc. that will be beneficial to each individual person.

According to Ayurveda there are specific practices that can balance each dosha (individual mind / body constitution). Understanding these concepts is necessary to bring about health and wellbeing.

This coming October 2014 will be the first time that Yoga Veda will host their Ayurveda – Nutrition and Yoga Therapy course in the Cayman Islands. This 200 Hour comprehensive course in Ayurveda, Nutrition, and Yoga is recognized by NAMA (National Ayurvedic Medical Association) and is a pre-requisite to the San Diego College’s Ayurvedic Health Educator 600 hour program. This course also not only meets but exceeds the requirements set forth by the International Yoga Alliance, a Yoga Teacher Training Accrediting Agency, at the 200 hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) level.

The course director, Jacquelyn is a registered E-RYT and is currently the only NAMA (National Ayurvedic Medical Association) certified Ayurvedic Practitioner in South East Asia and is currently the Panchakarma program director at Monte Vista Retreat Center, Koh Phangan, Thailand.

The course covers various topics including Yogic & Ayurvedic Philosophy, History of Ayurveda, and Introduction to Tri-Doshic Theory, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy (application and theory), therapeutic application of Panchakarma, Herbology, teaching methodology, clinical assessment, and much more.

Yoga Veda will also be offering a Panchakarma detoxification program and yoga retreat in the Cayman Islands in October in addition to the training course. Panchakarma is the Ayurvedic form of body / mind detoxification therapy.

Yoga Veda is based in South East Asia, on a small island in Thailand and offers Ayurveda Courses and Panchakarma detoxification Retreats, Yoga Retreats, as well as Self Healing Retreats year round at Monte Vista Retreat Center on Koh Phangan, Thailand.
