The IIHS assesses vehicles by their ability to remain intact and safe after a collision has occurred. The four Top Safety Pick Criteria tests are moderate overlap front tests, side impact tests, roof strength tests, and rear crash protection tests. The IIHS continues to strengthen their testing and has recently added a small overlap front test.
For a vehicle to be considered a Top Safety Pick they must pass all four criteria with a good rating. The all-new Santa Fe showed good performance in all four tests for the midsize SUV class.
The Hyundai Santa Fe tested better than the Toyota 4Runner, Nissan Xterra, Honda Crosstour, and Jeep Liberty. The Santa Fe excelled in the crossover’s ability to stay intact and safe in the event of a rollover accident.
The 2013 Santa Fe comes equipped with 7 airbags and anti-lock braking system for added protection. Additionally, Hillstart Assist Control comes standard on all new Santa Fes. The Downhill Brake control helps maintain stability when stopped or heading down steep hills.
