The campaign has run in conjunction with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which was officially October 17, but Kia’s efforts continue to help the impoverished families of South Sudan. Kia motors will be providing food for 100,000 families and will also be running a large-scale advertising and social media campaign to help raise awareness.
The ad that has generated the most attention for the 2012 Global End Poverty Campaign is a commercial in which celebrities, including Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Bono, Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, Liam Neeson and many more, symbolically snap their fingers every three seconds. Each snap represents a child who has died to due extreme poverty. Narrated by Liam Neeson, the ad sheds light to the fact that these deaths of sons and draughts are completely avoidable if we unite and act against poverty. Click here to view the video.
Kia has also turned to Facebook to help increase awareness. According to Kia’s release, “he Facebook ‘Like’ strategy was chosen as a way to effectively maximize awareness of this ongoing problem due to the viral ‘newsfeed’ function of Facebook.” The donation amount will not be affected by how many “likes” the page does or does not get, but Kia is excited at the opportunity to raise awareness through social media. The 2012 Global End Poverty Campaign is in partnership with World Vision.
