Hutch Chevrolet announces that students can enter to win sizable college scholarships from Buick, now through February 28.
Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC has announced that the Buick Achievers Scholarship is now open for applications. This marks the third year that Buick has offered the scholarship to graduating high school students, as well as returning undergraduate students. The focus of the scholarship is to keep down the skyrocketing costs of a college education for students who display an eagerness to learn and perseverance in their endeavors. Applications will be received now through February 28 at 5 p.m. EST. The funds for the Buick Achievers Scholarship are made available through the General Motors Foundation. These scholarships were also offered in 2011 and 2012 and collectively have provided over $12 million in aid to 2,200 students. The scholarships are specifically intended for students pursuing majors in areas such as design, business, engineering, and information technology. Like the two previous years, 1,100 scholarships will be awarded to highly competitive students.
The award money is broken into two categories. There is a scholarship award of $2,000. This scholarship is a one-time award, meaning it is nonrenewable. It can be applied toward any of the costs of a college education, including tuition, books, food, and housing. Of the 1,100 selected winners, 1,000 students will receive this award. A special scholarship is reserved for the 100 students who most greatly display a dedication to education, both in their past achievements and in their future goals. These lucky 100 students, who have successfully demonstrated a passion for learning both inside and outside the classroom, will receive scholarships reaching $25,000 a year. Unlike the other scholarship, this one is renewable for four years, and special considerations are made for engineering students who are in a five-year program (due to co-ops, etc.).
Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC is very proud of this program. In the last two years, students from all 50 states have received aid from this award. An inspiring 120 past scholarship winners were military veterans who were either going to school or back to school to complete a degree. In addition, nearly half (about 1,000) of all those who merited awards in previous years are first generation college attendees, meaning they are the first in their families to seek a college education.
United States and Puerto Rican students are eligible to apply. To learn how to get an application started, please visit www.buickachievers.com or stop in at Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC today for more information.
