Casey Kia Encourages Customers to File for MPG Reimbursement

On November 2nd, Kia announced that it was making voluntary adjustments to the fuel economy ratings of certain models. Casey Kia of Newport News encourages customers to contact them for more information.

In a joint move with Hyundai, Kia Motors America announced recently that they were making voluntary adjustments to the fuel economy ratings for certain models. The adjustment affects approximately 900,000 Kia and Hyundai vehicles, which is about 35 percent of 2011-2013 model year vehicles.

The adjustment comes after Kia and Hyundai’s discovery that certain procedural errors at their joint testing facility in Korea had led to the overestimation of miles per gallon (MPG) on certain models. The average reduction of MPG on affected models is 3 percent, or a reduction from 27 MPG to 26 MPG.

Affected models include the 2011 Optima Hybrid; the 2012-2013 Rio, Soul, and Sportage; and certain 2012-2013 Sorentos equipped with GDI engines. The gasoline-powered Optima remains unaffected, as does the Forte, Sedona, and Sorentos equipped with MPI engines.

Group president and CEO of Kia Motors America, Byung Mo Ahn, said, “As a customer-focused organization, we are fully committed to providing consumers with complete and accurate information, and deeply regret the errors were made. Our reimbursement program is intended to ensure that all affected Kia customers quickly receive fair compensation.”

Casey Kia is urging customers affected by this announcement to begin the reimbursement process. Kia will provide customers with personalized debit cards that will reimburse them for the difference in MPG, based on their local gas prices and their actual miles driven. Kia will also add an additional 15 percent to the reimbursement amount as an apology for the inconvenience caused to their customers. Current Kia owners will have the ability to refresh their debit cards for as long as they own their vehicles. Past owners of affected Kia models will also receive reimbursement from Kia.

To find out how to start the reimbursement process, go to www.KiaMPGinfo.com, or stop by Casey Kia to talk to one of their sales representatives. Casey Kia is in the process of re-labeling all affected models on their lot, so new Kia customers can rest assured that the MPG listings are now accurate.
