Casey BMW Excited for New 3 Series Sedan

This week, BMW announced that the entry-level 320i will be joining its current 3 Series lineup.

BMW has revealed an entry-level variant of its popular 3 Series sedan at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 320i will become BMW’s new entry-level model, and is expected to appeal to an as-yet untapped customer base. The 320i name pays homage to the very first 3 Series available for sale in the U.S. back in the 1970s, and played a large part in the model’s success stateside.

The 2013 BMW 320i will offer a 2.0-liter, 180-horsepower turbocharged four cylinder engine, mated with either a six-speed manual transmission, or an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW expects that the 320i will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 7.1 second, and have a fuel economy rating of 22 mpg city/34 mpg highway for the manual, 23/33 for the automatic, and 22/33 for the all-wheel drive. BMW will distinguish the new 320i from other models in the 3 Series lineup with unique wheels, and one exhaust pipe instead of two.

"The state-of-the-art, lively 2.0-liter engine marks a return to the popular sport sedan's roots — it was with lightweight, high-performance 4-cylinder engines that the BMW made its debut back in 1975," said BMW in a press release regarding the unveiling of the BMW 320i.

The driving efficiency of the 320i is thanks to the Driving Dynamics Control switch, which offers Comfort, Sport, and ECO PRO modes. Standard safety features include Dynamic Stability Control, ABS, Automatic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic Brake Control, start-off assist, brake-drying, and an electronic limited slip function for the rear differential.

Customers can choose from a wide range of packages, including a Sport Package that features a raised top speed limiter, sport seats, M sport suspension, M steering wheel, anthracite headliner, and summer tires. Other available packages are the Premium Package, Driver Assist Package, Lighting Package, and Cold Weather Package, although BMW has not yet released the details about these upgrades.

The BMW 320i will be available at dealerships nationwide, including Casey BMW, later on in the spring. For the latest BMW news and information, follow Casey BMW on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/CaseyBMW, and on Twitter at https://twitter.com/BMWCasey.
