Saleema Nawaz’s Bone and Bread
The National Post is betting that Nawaz’s first novel will be a surefire hit. Already an acclaimed short story writer, it makes sense that Nawaz would try her hand at a longer piece. Her novel, slated for March, tells the story of sisters who go to live with their uncle after the death of their parents. If the author’s novel writing skills are anything like her short fiction skills, expect a poignant and sweet reflection on life and the ties that bind families together.
A New Work from Maurice Sendak?
If you know the name “Maurice Sendak,” chances are that you have children or that you remember your own childhood well. Sendak is best known for illustrating the famous Little Bear series and for his works Where the Wild Things Are and In the Night Kitchen, among others. In light of his recent death, you might not expect to see Sendak’s name on this list, but The Millions reveals that one, previously unpublished work of Sendak’s has been discovered and is slated for release in February. The work, My Brother’s Book is appropriately titled, as it actually is a tribute to Sendak’s deceased brother Jack.
Laugh with David Sedaris
Everybody loves the off-beat and highly entertaining David Sedaris, including The Huffington Post, which included the author’s newest book in its list of predicted hits for 2013.The book’s crazy title Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls promises it will be as much of a hoot (pun intended) as Sedaris’ other works. The only bad news is that Sedaris fans will have to wait until late April to see this book hit shelves. The good news is that Sedaris is known for going on tour to promote his books, so a few lucky readers might just be able to meet the author in person and snag a signed copy.
A New Book for Jodi Picoult Fans
Few writers have the kind of loyal following that Jodi Picoult does, and that following guarantees that everything she publishes is a success. Picoult’s newest work, The Storyteller, is set for release in late February, making it ideal for a belated Valentine’s Day gift. The plot centers on what happens when a former Nazi guard asks his newfound friend, who has some ties to the Holocaust herself, to kill him as punishment for his past. Undoubtedly, hard questions will be raised and loyalties will be tested, making for an exciting and page-turning read. In other words, it’s a typically twisted and emotionally wrenching Picoult novel, one that any true fan of hers won’t want to miss
