Self-taught French artist Micheline Belin is an art therapist and reiki practitioner who brings a similar sensibility of healing and balance to her fine art pieces through her use of color and materials. A former silk painter, Belin layers silk and acrylic to create tactile paintings and collages of landscapes, figures, flower still lifes and masks. While her landscapes are very soft and impressionistic, almost Art Nouveau-like in their coloring and the way that they are cropped, some of her other works are sculptural, almost inviting the viewer to reach out and touch them. Belin’s “personage” paintings often contain surrealistic elements, recalling the work of Remedios Varo with their fantastical feminine creatures, or Man Ray’s portraits of women juxtaposed with inanimate objects such as flowers.

Micheline Belin’s work is that of a dreamer who is constantly questioning what lies beneath the surface of beauty and idealism. Like other painters of fantasy before her, Belin unveils what the mind may not know but the heart understands.
